Sloppy Joes, Sloppy Jose, Sloppy Josephs, whatever...
Here are two recipes for Sloppy Joe sandwiches.
The first is from the southern living homestyle cookbook. This is the recipe my wife and I like.
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tbsp veggie oil
1 lb lean ground beef
2 8-oz cans of tomato sausce
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp chili powder
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
4 honey wheat hamburger buns, toasted
Cook onion in hot oil in large skillet for 4 minutes, stir in ground beef and next 6 ingredients and cook 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, my son doesn't like this- too much onion. Here is another recipe, which is very similar to manwich, except slightly sweeter.
1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
3 teaspoons brown sugar
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
I just combined all the ingredient except the ground beef into a bowl, brown the beef, then added the sauce and simmered for about 5 minutes.

How about we throw the 'joe' out altogether? I like the name...Messy Marvins!

ReplyDeleteNooo! I use the word 'slather' in a most, umm, adult manner and I could never, EVER associate something I eat with...that. Oh, the horror!
